    Dancing starts at 7:30. 

    Newcomers are always welcome.  We waive the admission fee the first time you attend.  An introductory session is available at 7:15 upon request.

    No street shoes permitted beyond entryway.  Only clean soled shoes permitted on the dance floor.

    No partner required

    Admission:  Sliding Scale.  Pay what you can. Recommended range $7.00 - $20.00

    The Big "New Year's Dance" at Norse Hall

    TWO BANDS! TWO CALLERS!

    The Portland Country Dance Community (PCDC) will once again create our New Year's extravaganza at Norse Hall, on SATURDAY, JANUARY 4th.  Contra Dancing will fill the grand ballroom all evening!

    $15-$35 Sliding scale admission.

    Special times for this event: Newcomer contra lesson starts at 7:30 pm, dancing 8:00 pm – 12:15 am.

    Countercurrent from Olympia will open the evening, featuring Alex Sturbaum (Guitar) and Brian Lindsay (fiddle), then we'll have the Fiddle Hellions Big Band featuring Betsy Branch and George Penk on fiddles, Sue Songer on keyboard, and Bill Tomczak on horns. Callers Jesse Partridge (Olympia) and Noah Grunzweig will call dances using gender-neutral terms .

    Yes, we are finally hosting our very own ball again! Our last Twelfth Night Ball was January 2020. We could have had no idea what was about happen to all of us. We had no idea this would be our last ball for FIVE YEARS.
    But it's finally time. Time to return. Time to rejoice. Time to dance!

    The 2nd Sunday English Dance for Experienced Dancers is an opportunity to dance to the music of Fine Companions (and Friends).

    Calling: David Macemon
    Music: George Penk, Leslie Hirsch, Mark Douglass

    The dances will be a balance of familiar dances and unfamiliar dances.

    The callers will encourage dancers to incorporate style points such as quality of movement, timing, transitions and dancing with the music.

    We ask that dancers be comfortable dancing standard English Dance figures including:
    - Heys in various orientations
    - Regular and Double figure eights
    - Triple minor progressions
    - Dancing with couples outside of your group of 4
    - Straight and draw poussettes.

    If you are not familiar with these figures we recommend that you attend the PCDC Friday Night English Dance to become comfortable with these figures before attending the 2nd Sunday English Dance for Experienced Dancers. (Note: No street shoes permitted beyond the entrance of the Renaissance School )
