    Our Saturday night series at Fulton Hall continues! The Fiddle Hellions (Sue Songer, George Penk, Betsy Branch) will play; Susan Michaels will call using gender-neutral terms. All folks must be vaxxed, boosted, and masked.

    SALEM Community Dance: The Hat Band w/Jana Rygas

    The Salem Folklore Community continues their First Thursdays Community Dance series in 2023. They will hold their next dance on Thursday January 5, from 6:30 to 9:00 at the VFW Hall (630 Hood St. NE), with music by the Hat Band (Jon Neff and Syd Newell) and calling by Jana Rygas.  Masks are required and vaccinations recommended.  They hope to create a welcoming atmosphere for both new and experienced dancers, with circles, squares, and contras designed to foster success and fun for all.

    Admission is on a sliding scale, $5-10 per person.

    Newcomer session at 6 pm

    Dancing 6:30-9:00 pm

    If you test positive for COVID after attending a PCDC event, please email igotcovid@portlandcountrydance.org to tell us when you tested positive, what event you attended, and any symptoms you might want to mention.  We will never reveal your identity.

     Per PCDC Guidelines: For everyone's safety and comfort all must be vaccinated and boosted (if eligible), sign a waiver and provide contact information. Well fitting masks are required for all, except the caller and musicians when they are on the stage.

    The 2nd Sunday English Dance for Experienced Dancers is an opportunity to dance to the music of Fine Companions (and Friends).

    The dances will be a balance of familiar dances and unfamiliar dances.

    The callers will encourage dancers to incorporate style points such as quality of movement, timing, transitions and dancing with the music.

    We ask that dancers be comfortable dancing standard English Dance figures including:
    - Heys in various orientations
    - Regular and Double figure eights
    - Triple minor progressions
    - Dancing with couples outside of your group of 4
    - Straight and draw poussettes.

    If you are not familiar with these figures we recommend that you attend the PCDC Friday Night English Dance to become comfortable with these figures before attending the 2nd Sunday English Dance for Experienced Dancers. (Note: No street shoes permitted beyond the entrance of the Renaissance School )

The band includes WB Reid (fiddle, guitar, banjos), Bonnie Zahnow (fiddle, guitar), and Laurie Andres (accordion, piano). Janet Grove will call using gender-neutral terms. All folks must be vaxxed, boosted, and masked.

    Saturday night dancing at Fulton Hall continues! Countercurrent and friends ("Plus") will head down from Olympia to make music at Fulton. The band includes Alex Sturbaum (guitar, accordion, vocals) and Brian Lindsay (fiddle, banjo, foot percussion, vocals). Local favorite Laurel Thomas will call dances using gender-neutral terms. All folks must be vaxxed, boosted, and masked.
