    PCDC sponsors a contra slow jam on the 1st and 3rd Mondays from 7-9 PM in the community room at McMenamins Kennedy School, 5736 NE 33rd Ave, Portland, OR 97211.

    The events are free and open to all acoustic musicians, whether you play by dots or by ear.

    The contra jam plays tunes from the Portland Collection and the waltz books edited by Bill Matthiesen.

    If you don’t have the books, we’re happy to share. Come make music with us!!

    Join us for a Second Thursday backyard jam session!  All acoustical instruments, all levels welcome!  We play by ear, so no need to bring any books (unless you want to!).

    PCDC 2nd Saturday Contra: Woe to Joy w/Laurel Thomas

    Our Saturday night series at Fulton Hall continues! Please welcome Woe to Joy to the Fulton stage! Collin Stackhouse (fiddle and banjo), Kaden Hurst (mandolin), Lillian Sawyer (fiddle), Joe Pomianek (guitar), and Steven Skolnik (percussion) play music in a variety of bands and teach. Local favorite Laurel Thomas will call dances using gender-neutral terms.

    Covid precautions are suspended indefinitely!  We will continue to monitor potential exposures at PCDC events and adjust policies as needed. Refer to the PCDC Covid policy for details.

    7:00 pm newcomer/refresher lesson
    7:30 pm dancing starts
    10:30 dancing ends
    Some dancers head to a pub for "afters" -- all are welcome!

    The Portland Contra Committee meets (usually) on 2nd Monday's to support the needs of Contra dance events and dancers.

    PCDC "End of Summer" Picnic

    What: PCDC "End of Summer" Picnic
    When: Saturday, June 29, 3:00-6:00
    Where: Fulton Park
    Bring: Potluck dish, a chair, your instrument, dance clothes to exchange, lawn game toys

    The PCDC Contra Committee will host another picnic at Fulton Pack, 3-6 pm Saturday.

    We will have a musical jam session, button making, games, and clothing exchange. This is a great event to get to know your fellow dancers and musicians off the dance floor.

    Please bring your own picnic foods and beverages. PCDC will not seed this event with food from Nicholas.

    Stick around for the dance that evening with Penelope Weinberg, visiting from the Washington, DC area, and the local musicians in Coriolis.

    We will have early access to the community center and its restrooms.

    To participate in the clothing exchange, contact Libby Wentz.

    DANCE CANCELLED!

    Due to the forecast of extreme heat Saturday, the PCDC Contra Committee has decided to cancel the popular open mike / open band dance. Stay cool, and we'll look forward to dancing with everyone soon!

    Our Saturday night Open Mike Open Band dance at Fulton Hall.

    Local musicians Dave Hamlin (mandolin) and Lanny Martin (accordion, piano) will organize the music. Please contact them in advance so that you can learn about their musical plans.  Laurel Thomas will lead the callers' Open Mike. You can contact her in advance or just show up and sign up for a calling slot.
