This is a mask optional event. Vaccinations and boosters are not required, but encouraged.
The 2nd Sunday English Dance for Experienced Dancers is an opportunity to dance to the music of Fine Companions (and Friends).
The dances will be a balance of familiar dances and unfamiliar dances.
The callers will encourage dancers to incorporate style points such as quality of movement, timing, transitions and dancing with the music.
We ask that dancers be comfortable dancing standard English Dance figures including:
- Heys in various orientations
- Regular and Double figure eights
- Triple minor progressions
- Dancing with couples outside of your group of 4
- Straight and draw poussettes.
If you are not familiar with these figures we recommend that you attend the PCDC Friday Night English Dance to become comfortable with these figures before attending the 2nd Sunday English Dance for Experienced Dancers. (Note: No street shoes permitted beyond the entrance of the Renaissance School )

Come out to the Woodshed - a community space for creativity
We meet on 3rd or 4th Sundays from 3p-5p at the Burlingame Water Tower dance hall (same location as the regular Friday night ECD) and it's FREE! Save our dates on your calendar:
4th Sunday, August 25, 2024 3rd Sunday, October 20, 2024 3rd Sunday, December 15, 2024 3rd Sunday, February 16, 2025 4th Sunday, April 27, 2025 4th Sunday, June 22, 2025 4th Sunday, August 24, 2025 4th Sunday, October 26, 2025 3rd Sunday, December 21, 2025
The woodshed series lets callers (or would-be callers) try out new (or new-to-them) material. Callers present new dances or modern reconstructions - typically English (some contra) - and ask the dancers for feedback on particular or general points. When not calling, callers also dance. We'll have at least one experience dance musician and possibly others sitting in (best for players who can sight-read or learn by ear quickly and play up to dance tempo). PCDC donates the rental and musician expense because this serves a valuable function, so everybody gets in free.
This is a working session, and dance geeks enjoy it very much. There's a high proportion of discussion and experimenting to try things different ways. This is a great opportunity to see works-in-progress, influence old and new dance (re)creations, or develop skills of your own in a safe supportive setting.
We whole-heartedly invite you to be one of those dancers that helps to bring these new dances to life. Please RSVP because it helps to know if we have enough dancers. You will of course be welcome if you just show up.
If you're interested in sharing or presenting a dance, and playing for the series contact us. We try to set the program of what's to be presented 2 weeks before the date.
RSVP, suggestions, and questions to Ric Goldman and Sara Munz
