  • 2nd Thurs PCDC Contra Tunes Teaching Session by Betsy Branch

    2nd Thurs PCDC Contra Tunes Teaching Session by Betsy Branch

    Thu Oct 9, 2025

    Time: 7-9pm (arrive in time to be tuned and ready to learn at 7:00)

    Location: Private residence in SE Portland (email sharonjeanallen@yahoo.com for the address)

    Contra dance tunes taught by ear.  All melody instruments, all levels welcome.  (Really!  There's no test at the end!)

    FREE!  No cost to participants!

    We meet the 2nd Thursday of each month to learn tunes by George Penk or Betsy Branch, alternating between SW and SE Portland.  The focus is on developing a common repertoire to play by ear at jam sessions and, for those who wish, at 5th Saturday Open Band contra dances.  Every third month rather than learn new tunes, we jam on the ones we've learned plus whatever else people want to play.  The repeated monthly schedule is as follows:

    ||: George | Betsy | jam :||

    Who is this for?

    On To The Next is intended for experienced dancers of all identities and body designs. New dancers are welcome, and will likely find it accessible, but they should know to have their attention caps on and to enjoy the learning curve, as the event will not cater to their experience level. Our event is inclusive of people of all or no genders. We use Larks & Robins as calling terms & will have gender-free restrooms.

    We prioritize consent, playfulness, and co-creative space. As such, we ask our chaos monkeys to play inside the container as much as possible and for our order monkeys to let go of controlling others as part of their play.

    Come absorb the joy, friendship, and community fellowship of a dance weekend in one day!
