    PCDC sponsors a contra slow jam on the 1st and 3rd Mondays from 7-9 PM in the community room at McMenamins Kennedy School, 5736 NE 33rd Ave, Portland, OR 97211.

    The events are free and open to all acoustic musicians, whether you play by dots or by ear.

    The contra jam plays tunes from the Portland Collection and the waltz books edited by Bill Matthiesen.

    If you don’t have the books, we’re happy to share. Come make music with us!!

    2nd Saturday Contra: Peter and the Wolf Tones w/Laurel Thomas

    Our Saturday night series at Fulton Hall continues! Peter and the Wolf Tones will play for our dancing pleasure (George Penk, fiddle; Heather Pinney, piano, fiddle; Jesse Schafer, cello, guitar). Laurel Thomas will call dances using gender-neutral terms.

    7:00 pm newcomer/refresher lesson
    7:30 pm dancing starts
    10:30 dancing ends
    Some dancers head to a pub for "afters" -- all are welcome!

    Note that this evening is a "House Band" dance run by George Penk, and not a PCDC event.

    Countercurrent (from Olympia: Alex Sturbaum and Brian Lindsay) will play for our dancing pleasure. Caller George Marshall (Belchertown, Massachusetts) will use gender-neutral terms.

    Location: Private residence in Portland (email sharonjeanallen@yahoo.com for the address)

    Contra dance tunes jam session.  All acoustic instruments, all levels welcome.  (Really!  No one is counting how many wrong notes get played!)

    FREE!  No cost to participants!

    We meet the 2nd Thursday of each month to learn tunes by George Penk or Betsy Branch, alternating between SW and SE Portland.  The focus is on developing a common repertoire to play by ear at jam sessions and, for those who wish, at 5th Saturday Open Band contra dances.  Every third month rather than learn new tunes, we jam on the ones we've learned plus whatever else people want to play.  The repeated monthly schedule is as follows:

    Admission:  Sliding Scale.  Pay what you can. Recommended range $7.00 - $20.00

Please contact them in advance so that you can learn about their musical plans.  Gordy Euler will lead the callers' Open Mike, using gender-neutral terms.
